Choosing current transformers for the DJ-A36, DJ-A48, DJ-A72 and DJ-A96

Do I need a separate CT?
These single-phase ammeters use an X/5 current-transformer input, meaning a CT with a 5 A secondary. The listed package contains the ammeter only, so order a suitable CT separately. They are not direct-connected load-current meters.

Which CT ratio should I choose?
The listed ratio range is 5/5 to 9995/5. Match the CT’s primary rating to your circuit’s design current and expected operating load, then configure the ammeter to match. Check the available settings in the manual before ordering. Also confirm the CT’s burden rating, conductor opening and installation requirements.

Examples with stock verified when checked: 300/5 A, Class 0.5s, 1.5 VA, 400/5 A, Class 0.5s, 2.5 VA, and 600/5 A, Class 0.5s, 3.75 VA.

Split-core or solid-core?
Split-core CTs open around a conductor, which can simplify retrofit installation. Solid-core CTs require the conductor to pass through a closed opening. The 250/5 A ONKA split-core CT was also in stock when checked; its listed specification is Class 1, 1 VA, with a 36 mm opening. Split-core construction is not permission to work on live equipment.

What accuracy do I need?
These ammeters have a listed measurement precision of 1%. Select the CT with the complete measurement chain in mind, including operating current, leads and connected burden. Adding a Class 0.5s CT does not make the complete system Class 0.5s. These are current-measuring instruments, not energy or billing meters.

Single-phase or three-phase?
The DJ-A36, DJ-A48, DJ-A72 and DJ-A96 are single-phase current-measuring models, not three-phase ammeters. For measuring three phase currents in one instrument, consider a dedicated three-phase model such as the DJ-A96T. Follow the wiring diagram for your exact model.

Which size fits my panel?
Choose by the required panel cutout, not the front-face dimensions. The listed cutouts are 31 × 72 mm for DJ-A36, 46 × 46 mm for DJ-A48, 68 × 68 mm for DJ-A72, and 91 × 91 mm for DJ-A96. Check enclosure depth and wiring clearance as well as the aperture before ordering.
